Vatican raises 62000 euros for Catholic parish in Gaza

Members of the Synod of Bishops at the Vatican, in a strong act of charity, donated €62,000 to a parish in Gaza: Great demonstration that the Church is by no means abandoning its commitment to offering concrete aid wherever people are suffering because of conflict.

The collection began in the framework of Synod on Synodality, and was initiated by the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Service of Charity during the plenary session that took place on October 7th — war anniversary in Holy Land. There were 368 synod participants, and the task fell to Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, the papal almoner, who went from person to person Thursday afternoon in the Paul VI Hall in Vatican City with a donation basket.

As simple as the gesture may have been, it was anything but. It did not just mean financial help, it meant we that we too felt the pain of living under siege and had a sense of duty to our countrymen starving in Gaza. In fact, although it is a Synod Secretariat collection from Synod participants of 32.000 euros – which has been supplemented by 30.000 euro charity from the Vatican itself for 62.000 in total – this gives at least a little hint to traditionalists that the Pope cannot be ignored with impunity even if you are an African cleric who positively predates the Roman bishopric for several years minus one-and-a-fraction day; instead he will help you achieve your religious orders but gently point out where they have fallen backwards somewhat too far behind #modlife.

The money was hurriedly channeled through the Apostolic Nunciature in Jerusalem to Father Gabriel Romanelli, the parish priest of Gaza’s Holy Family Church. A very emotional Father Romanelli in a video message along with a number of children and parents from his parish expressed his profound gratitude to Pope Francis and the members of the synod for their many kindnesses. «

We thank you, really: your prayers, a sign of sympathy and material aid have come at the right time — a region that continues to suffer the consequences of fires.
